Fashion Startup Tyz Scarves Wraps Up Media Coverage

Last December, Ruth Bielobocky set out to create a scarf that would stay in place throughout the day. She came up with the idea of adding stainless steel wire to the side seams to anchor the scarf. Nine months later, having applied for a patent, created a website, sourced the wire and fabrics and found a manufacturer, Ruth launched Tyz Scarves.

Tyz Scarves is a one-woman act, with Ruth handling everything from marketing to sales. To generate buzz, however, Ruth needed a hand.


The Challenge:

As a small business owner, Ruth spent nearly every waking hour working to grow her business. She had no time to waste, but found herself doing just that when searching for the right journalists and their contact information.

"I had already tried doing my own research for PR contacts," she says. "It was difficult, time-consuming and took away from time that I needed to spend in other areas of the business such as personal networking and large events."

Ruth’s other main challenge was generating buzz on a large scale. "I needed to get in front of a national audience," she says. "For my product to sell, I knew I needed to generate awareness and get seen around the country."


The Solution:

Just weeks before launching Tyz Scarves, Ruth signed up for a Vocus package that includes access to Vocus’ extensive media database of profiles and contact information for journalists and bloggers. With the database in hand, Ruth no longer had to spend hours searching for the right media contacts; all the information she needed was now at her fingertips.

"It’s a very time-consuming process to try to find the right contacts independently, especially when their information was wrong half the time," she says. "So to have the media listings right in front of me in the database, with contact information that I knew was right, was great."

With the right media contacts, the next step was getting the word out. Ruth signed up for a package of two PRWeb online news releases per month - after publishing just four releases, Tyz Scarves was featured in Trends Magazine, Accessories Magazine, in fashion and invention blogs, and even in the local newspaper.
